In 1905, Myers joined Citizens National Bank as a clerk. He rose to head bookkeeper and
eventually to Vice President and president. After the crash of 1931, he played a vital role
in saving 23 textile mills in Gastonia, saving more than 4,000 jobs. From this beginning,
he formed Textile Inc, one of Gastonia’s most recognized brands for four decades. Myers
was chair of the South and Northern railroad board as well as an influential member of the
UNC board of trustees.
